1. Delivery Condition
The delivery condition of A516 Gr70 steel plates is mainly determined by their thickness:
When the plate thickness is less than 40 mm, it is usually delivered in the as-rolled condition.
The as-rolled condition means the steel plate is produced by hot rolling after being heated to a high temperature. It has a certain level of strength and toughness and is suitable for applications where surface quality requirements are not stringent.
When the plate thickness is equal to or greater than 40 mm, it is usually delivered in the normalized condition.
Normalizing is a heat treatment process in which the steel plate is heated above its critical temperature and then cooled in air. This process improves the overall mechanical properties of the plate, including strength, toughness, and weldability.
2. Additional Treatments
In addition to the above delivery conditions, A516 Gr70 steel plates can also undergo additional treatments according to customer requirements to meet specific application needs:
Tempering:
The plate is heated to a specific temperature, held for a period of time, and then slowly cooled to relieve internal stress and improve toughness.
Quenching:
The plate is heated above the critical temperature and then rapidly cooled to obtain high hardness and wear resistance.
However, it should be noted that quenching may reduce the toughness of the steel plate, so tempering is usually performed afterward to restore balance in mechanical properties.
Cutting and Machining:
The steel plate can be cut into the required sizes and shapes according to customer specifications.
