   04.Does A516GR70 require Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT)?

   General Rule: For plates thicker than 50 mm (2 inches), PWHT (stress relieving) is generally mandatory to eliminate residual welding stresses .

   Service Conditions: If the vessel will operate in wet hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) environments or severe corrosive conditions, PWHT is typically required regardless of thickness to prevent cracking . When required, the typical PWHT temperature is approximately 1150°F (620°C), held for one hour per inch of thickness .
