A516GR70 is a carbon steel plate for medium and low temperature pressure vessels under the ASTM standard. It is widely used due to its excellent welding performance, low-temperature toughness and compressive strength. The typical chemical composition is C ≤ 0.27%, Mn 0.85 - 1.20%, P ≤ 0.035%, S ≤ 0.035%, with tensile strength ≥ 485 MPa and yield strength ≥ 260 MPa.
Precautions for Use
1. Welding Process Control
Low-hydrogen electrodes (such as E7018) must be used and preheated to 150-200℃ (for plate thickness ≥ 20mm) to prevent cold cracking.
It is recommended to conduct stress relief annealing at 600 - 620℃ after welding (especially for plates with a thickness greater than 30mm).
2. Application in low-temperature environments
It performs well in environments above -30℃. However, for temperatures below this, the results of the Charpy V-notch impact test should be verified (typically requiring ≥ 20J at -30℃).
3. Processing and Forming
When cold-bending, it is recommended that the bending radius be no less than twice the plate thickness to avoid surface cracks.
The hot forming temperature should be controlled within 900-950℃ to avoid grain coarsening caused by overheating.
4. Corrosion Protection
Non-weathering steel should be coated with anti-corrosion coatings (such as epoxy coal tar enamel paint) in humid or sulfur-containing environments.
5. Storage and Handling
Avoid contact with chlorides (such as salts). Store on pallets to prevent moisture.

Liquefied gas storage tanks (must comply with ASME Section VIII standards).
