ABS/LR/DNV Approved AH36, DH36, EH36 Steel Plate for Shipbuilding

YUXIN Steel Group is a professional supplier of AH36, DH36, and EH36 steel plate for shipbuilding. All our marine steel plates come with original Mill Test Certificates (MTC) showing full traceability including heat number, chemical composition, and mechanical properties.

Shipbuilding steel requires excellent weldability, low-temperature toughness, and high strength. We stock only genuine plates approved by major classification societies including ABS, LR, DNV, CCS, BV, NK, and RINA. Our plates are ready for hull construction, offshore platforms, and ship repair projects.

AH36, DH36, and EH36 all have a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa. The main difference is the impact test temperature. We supply as-rolled, normalized, or TMCP condition based on your requirements. Custom cutting is also available. Typical lead time for bulk orders is 2-4 weeks.

TMCP vs. Normalized vs. As-rolled – Which Delivery Condition Do You Need?

Condition Key Feature Grain Size Toughness Cost Recommended For
As-rolled (AR) Directly rolled and cooled. Internal stress not fully relieved. Coarser Moderate Low Non-critical interior parts or AH36/DH36 for ambient temperature use only.
Normalized (N) Reheated above critical temperature then air-cooled. Uniform structure. Fine Good Medium Standard for EH36. Also for thick AH36/DH36 plates requiring better weldability.
TMCP Thermo-mechanical controlled process. Precise rolling + accelerated cooling. Ultra-fine Excellent Higher -40°C impact requirement, heavy thickness (>50mm), or high crack-sensitive applications.

How to Verify Your Mill Test Certificate (MTC) in 3 Steps?

The MTC is your only proof of material traceability. Follow these steps to avoid counterfeit or mismatched plates:

Step 1 – Match Heat Number

The Heat Number on the MTC must exactly match the stenciled/sprayed number on the actual steel plate.

Reject the material if the heat number is missing, unreadable, or different.

Step 2 – Check Impact Test Values (for EH36 example)

For EH36 at -40°C: The average of three specimens shall be ≥ 34 Joules, with a single minimum value ≥ 24 Joules.

Confirm the values meet your required classification society rule (e.g., ABS 2024, LR Rules for Ships).

Step 3 – Cross-check with Classification Society Approval

Ask your supplier for the factory approval certificate (same heat number range) issued by ABS, LR, DNV, etc.

This proves the steel mill was authorized to produce that grade at the time of manufacture.

We ordered 200 tons of EH36 plates for an Arctic supply vessel project. The Mill Test Certificates matched perfectly with the heat numbers, and the low-temperature impact test results were excellent. Delivery arrived two weeks earlier than promised. Will definitely order again.

FAQ

line

01.What is the difference between AH36 and DH36 steel plate?

The main difference is the impact test temperature. AH36 is tested at 0°C, while DH36 is tested at -20°C. DH36 has better low-temperature toughness, making it suitable for colder marine environments and offshore applications.

02.Can you provide Mill Test Certificates (MTC) for EH36 plates?

Yes. Every shipment comes with original Mill Test Certificates (MTC) showing full traceability including heat number, chemical composition, and mechanical properties. Third-party inspection (SGS, BV, LR) is also available upon request.

03.What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for AH36/DH36/EH36 plates?

We accept small trial orders starting from 5 tons. For larger projects, we can supply up to 5,000 tons per month. Cutting to size and edge preparation are also available.

04.What delivery condition is used for EH36 steel plate?

EH36 steel plate is typically supplied in Normalized or TMCP condition to ensure proper grain structure and low-temperature toughness. AH36 and DH36 can be supplied as-rolled for standard applications.

05.How to select AH36/DH36/EH36 based on the navigation area of the vessel?

All three grades have the same minimum yield strength (≥355 MPa). The key difference is the impact test temperature. Choose based on your vessel's operating environment:

Grade Impact Test Temp. Recommended Applications
AH36 0°C / 32°F General hull construction for vessels operating in tropical or temperate waters (container ships, bulk carriers). No extra cost for low-temperature toughness.
DH36 -20°C / -4°F Offshore platforms, FPSO topsides, and vessels trading in cold regions during winter. Also commonly used for the transition area between upper deck and main hull.
EH36 -40°C / -40°F Arctic vessels, icebreakers, and highly stressed areas (e.g., sheer strake, bilge strake, torsion box). Requires normalized or TMCP delivery condition for fine grain structure.
