Product Overview
The EH36 shipbuilding steel plate is a high-strength, low-alloy structural steel specifically designed for the construction of ocean-going vessels, offshore drilling rigs, and heavy marine equipment.
Unlike standard mild steel, EH36 Steel Plate offers a high yield strength of 355 MPa while maintaining excellent weldability and impact resistance. The "E" in EH36 signifies its ability to withstand harsh conditions, guaranteeing stable performance even at frigid temperatures as low as -40°C.
If you are building an Arctic oil tanker, a large container ship, or an offshore platform in the North Sea, EH36 is the industry standard for safety and durability.
Why Choose EH36 Over Standard Grades
In the shipbuilding industry, using the correct grade of steel is a matter of safety. EH36 provides superior toughness compared to lower grades like AH36 or DH36. Here is why engineers specify EH36 Shipbuilding Steel for critical structures

High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Allows for lighter hull weight without compromising structural integrity.

Low-Temperature Resilience: Guaranteed impact energy absorption at -40°C, preventing brittle fractures in arctic or winter conditions

Certified Quality: Produced under strict supervision of major classification societies (ABS, LR, DNV, CCS, etc.).

Not sure if you need the extreme cold resistance of EH36? Many of our clients choose DH36 for standard ocean routes.
DH36 Steel Plate
Offers 355 MPa yield strength but is certified for impact resistance at -20°C. It is more cost-effective for traditional shipbuilding in temperate climates.
EH36 vs. DH36
The main difference is the service temperature. Choose EH36 if your vessel travels near polar regions. Choose DH36 for standard international shipping.

why choose us?
1. Ready Stock for Standard Sizes – No Waiting
We don't just take orders; we keep regular inventory of EH36 plates in the most commonly requested thicknesses (8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, 40mm, 50mm).
2. Fast Lead Time for Special & Non-Standard Sizes
Do you need unusual dimensions (e.g., 47mm thick, 2.8 meters wide, custom cut lengths)? Many suppliers will ask you to wait 6–8 weeks for mill rolling.
3. 100% Authentic Shipbuilding MTC & Class Society Certificates
This is the most critical part. Fake MTCs (Mill Test Certificates) have caused major shipbuilding scandals. We never cut corners.
4. We Speak Engineer-to-Engineer
We don't play games with "maybe" delivery dates or vague specifications. Our team understands:
Yield strength @ 355 MPa – verified by our in-house testing records
Impact test at -40°C – fully guaranteed for EH36 grade
Welding compatibility – we can advise on compatible welding consumables.

FAQ

01.What is the main difference between EH36 and DH36 shipbuilding steel?
The core difference is the service temperature for impact toughness.
DH36: Guarantees impact strength at -20°C. It is less expensive and suitable for standard ocean vessels (container ships, bulk carriers) that do not sail in extreme cold.
EH36: Guarantees impact strength at -40°C. It is required for Arctic routes, icebreakers, and offshore platforms in freezing waters.
02.Do you stock EH36 plates in standard sizes, or do I have to wait for mill production?
We maintain regular inventory of the most requested sizes, including 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 20mm, 25mm, 30mm, 40mm, and 50mm.
Stock sizes: Shipped within 24–48 hours.
Non-standard / special sizes: We offer an industry-leading lead time of only 10–15 days (typical suppliers take 45–60 days).
03.How can I verify that your Mill Test Certificate (MTC) is authentic?
Every MTC (EN 10204 3.1 or 3.2) we provide is:
Fully traceable to the original heat number and steelmaking batch.
Issued by the original certified mill (not a third-party forgery).
Available for witness inspection by ABS, LR, DNV, BV, CCS, or NK upon request.
If you have any doubt, you can request a sample MTC PDF before placing your order. We also welcome third-party audits (SGS, Bureau Veritas) at our warehouse.
04.Can you provide shipbuilding steel plates smaller than 5mm or thicker than 150mm?
Yes. While our regular stock ranges from 5mm to 150mm, we can supply custom thicknesses above 150mm with an extended lead time.
For very thin plates (<5mm), we recommend checking our DH36 or AH36 sheets. Please tell us your exact required dimensions, and our technical team will confirm feasibility, delivery time, and minimum order quantity (MOQ) within 24 hours.
