Products Description
SKD61 is a widely used representative steel in hot work die steel, which can be used to manufacture forging dies, hot extrusion dies and precision forging dies with large impact loads. Aluminum, copper and their alloys die casting. At the same time, because of its higher vanadium content, its comprehensive performance at medium temperature (600℃) is better than SKD6 alloy tool steel, which can be used to make important components in the aviation industry.

Main Ingredients (%) :
Carbon (C)0.35 ~ 0.42
Silicon (Si)0.80 ~ 1.20
Manganese (Mn)0.25 ~ 0.50
Phosphorus (P)≤0.030
Sulfur (S)≤0.020
Chromium (Cr)4.80 ~ 5.50
Molybdenum (Mo)1.00 ~ 1.50
Vanadium (V)0.80 ~ 1.15

Heat treatment process specification and performance:
Heat treatment process specification: quenching, (790±15) ℃ preheating, (1000±6) ℃ (salt bath) or (1010±6) ℃ (furnace control atmosphere) heating, holding 5-15min, air cooling, (550±6) ℃ tempering.
Mechanical properties: 820 ~ 870℃ slow cooling annealing, annealing hardness ≤229HB; Sample quenching hardness ≥50HRC.
SKD61 is an alloy tool steel, air hardening hot work die steel, is currently the most widely used and one of the most representative hot work die steel, its main characteristics are: 1) with high hardenability and high toughness; 2) Excellent thermal cracking resistance, can be water cooled in the workplace; 3) With medium wear resistance, carburizing or nitriding process can also be used to improve the surface hardness, but slightly to reduce the thermal cracking resistance; 4) Due to its low carbon content, the secondary hardening ability in tempering is poor; 5) It has the ability to resist softening at higher temperatures, but the hardness decreases rapidly when the temperature is higher than 540 ° C (1000 ° F) (that is, the working temperature of the ability is 540 ° C); 6) The deformation of heat treatment is small; 7) Medium and high machinability; 8) Medium resistance to decarbonization.
