The main difference is tensile and yield strength.
A516 Gr60： Tensile Strength 415-550 MPa, Yield Strength ≥220 MPa. Suitable for less demanding, lower-pressure applications.
A516 Gr70： Tensile Strength 485-620 MPa, Yield Strength ≥260 MPa. Stronger and more suitable for higher-pressure vessels such as LPG storage tanks, large chemical reactors, and boilers.
How to choose? If your design pressure is higher or you need a thinner wall to save weight, choose Gr70. For non-critical, low-pressure water or air receivers, Gr60 may be sufficient and slightly lower cost.
Q:2.Can SA516 Gr70 be used for hydrogen service?
Yes, but with caution.
SA516 Gr70 is commonly used in hydrogen service at moderate temperatures and pressures (typically below 300°C and moderate hydrogen partial pressure). However, you must be aware of Hydrogen Induced Cracking (HIC) and High Temperature Hydrogen Attack (HTHA) risks.
For wet H₂S + hydrogen environments, you should request HIC-tested plates (we can supply this option).
For high-temperature hydrogen (above 250°C), a steel with more alloying elements (e.g. Cr-Mo steel like A387 Gr11) is preferred.
Our suggestion： Provide your exact operating temperature and hydrogen partial pressure, and we will recommend the right grade.
Q:3.Do you cut A516GR70 plates to custom shapes?
Yes, we do.
We offer free cutting service for small parts (plasma or flame cutting). You can order：
Rectangular shapes (cut-to-size from standard plates)
Circular rings, gaskets, or round blanks
Irregular shapes (with your CAD drawing or template)
There is a minimum order quantity (MOQ) for custom shapes, typically 5 pieces per design. Please contact us with your drawing for a quick quote.

Non-stock sizes (thickness above 50mm or special width/length)： 25-35 days (production + inspection).
Rush orders： We keep a safety stock for the most popular sizes (e.g. 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm, 25mm). For these, we can ship within 5-7 days to major ports.
We always confirm current inventory before sending a proforma invoice. You will not face unexpected delays.
Q:6.Do you provide a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) with each plate?
Every plate we ship comes with an EN 10204 Type 3.1 Mill Test Certificate (or 3.2 upon request at extra cost). The MTC includes：

Mechanical properties (tensile, yield, elongation, impact test at -46°C)
Ultrasonic test (UT) results
